New Cusine: Malatang

Image
Have you ever heard of Malatang? Malatang is a street food in China and recently has become increasingly popular with different stores popping up around Sydney. It is like an individual hotpot where you pick out ingredients such as vegetables, fish balls, meats, seafoods and noodles. You choose how many and pop them in your bowl in a buffet style line. When you get to the end of the line, you hand over your bowl which is weighed to determine the prices as you pay per by the weight. Prices vary depending on location and store. You then choose your soup base. Traditionally Malatang is a spicy dish with spicy soup however locations have variations of spice levels including some locations with non-spicy as an option. They then take your bowl to the back and they cook all your food into a delicious bowl of perfection for you to eat. This bowl was from Mama Tang in Cabramatta. Ingredients selected were noodles, calamari, octopus, scallops, corn, dumplings, greens and sesame o...

Beach Breakfast

Image
Eating out as a family is a rare occasion for me as it is not very economical, so when we do eat out it is a special occasion. Recently we went out to have breakfast at The Gerringong Deli and Café, the food was excellent and for a very reasonable price. I went for the pancakes (who can say no to ice-cream) along with my sister, while the rest of my family opted for a more savoury option of toast, eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc…  I sampled the savoury option as well and found my pancakes and their ‘big breakfast’ were both surprisingly good, and the servings were generous. The price was not bad either, with almost all dishes falling between $15 – $20. The café had an excellent atmosphere with good coffee, you couldn’t really ask for more. We as a family will defiantly be going back for more next time we holiday down the south coast. - Declan 🍞

Pasta: Basic but the best

Image
What’s better than pasta? I don’t know the answer to that question, but I can say that pasta with amazing ingredients added can make it incredibly tasty. Pasta is a staple for a quick go to meal, especially with the singles, couples, families or large gatherings with friends. Pasta is a basic but it can become complex if you add certain ingredients such as beef mince and home made sauce. My homemade sauce is one that I make every time I cook pasta and have gotten great feedback. During the time I start boiling my water for pasta, I prepare the sauce. I cut 2 ripped tomatoes, 1 red onion and 3 garlic. I finely cut the tomato and onions to help with the cooking process. The garlic is grated finely and adds a punch. I prepare my sauce in another pan because it allows me time to cook the pasta. I place the tomato, onion and garlic in the pan with olive oil and some salt. I wait 3 minutes for the ingredients to cook before adding 1 tablespoon of pesto paste, 1 table...

Easy Holiday Meals

Image
Everyone likes going on holidays, taking a break from the monotonous rhythm of life, can be really relaxing and enjoyable. Although when on holidays  cooking can be a bother, especially when in a holiday house when you don’t have your normal array of food in the pantry and all the pots and pans are either filthy, broken or the wrong size. You may choose to eat out each night, but that can quickly get expensive and sometimes you just don’t want to go out at all. Here is a list of what I think are the best meals to make on holidays because they are quick, easy and affordable: ·        Curry ·        Pies/fish and chips ·        Beef stroganoff ·        Nachos ·        barbeque All of these meals can be found as a packet mixes from most supermarkets (you can get fish and chips from the supermarket, but it is not as ...

I had the Power Ball-  organic acai berry, banana, strawberry, natural peanut butter, activated almond milk. The bowl also came with some yummy toppings- activated cacao buckinis, banana, blueberry, organic hemp seeds, raw almonds and bush honey.  I love it and unfortunately, have not been adventurous to discover the other bowls.  I   h...

Satisfy Sweet Tooth: Old School Ka-Fey

Image
Do you feel like something light and sweet? To satisfy your sweet-tooth Old school Ka-Fey is the place to go! This is a cute cafe located in CBD which sells a variety of different desserts such as Bing-su, French toast, waffles and many more! Bing-su is a popular Korean dessert and is becoming more well known in Western culture. The dish consists of shaved ice and is usually topped with a variety of fruits, ice cream and condensed milk.  Old school Ka-Fey is well known for the ‘Old School Milk Tea.’ The flavour of this dish was sensational, and just melted in my mouth! This is the perfect dessert in the Summertime, after a nice dinner in the city of Sydney. When served, the Bing-su was served with a separate glass of condensed milk for the preference of the customer. The combination of the two balanced each other out and was not overly sweet. The Old School Milk Tea consisted of interesting combination of toppings! Besides the milk tea favo...
